So my girlfriend had been to their Orlando location and said her experience was decent. Couldn't remember if food was too salty or not salty enough. We ventured out and tried Pal Campo for dinner.
Exterior seems a bit dark and gloomy. Once we walk in, the decor is ok and could prob do a bit more to spice it up.
We sit and greeted by our server, older gentleman... very pleasant. Order an alcapurria to start. Highly recommend.
As we look over the menu, I go with the mofongo (green plantain and yuca mix), with crab meat in salsa criolla (tomato based). my lady goes with the rice (arroz mamposteao) and bistec encebollado.
All I'm going to say is my mofongo stuffed with crab meat was the best I've had in awhile. The serving was too large to finish in one sitting. Had the leftovers the following day and it was just as good, and mofongo is something one typically only eats fresh.
The other plate was decent. I was not a fan of the rice, as it had sweet plantains. Without would have been better. The bistec encebollado was good, just dry as they didn't add caldito (sauce it's cooked in).
If you're a fan of mofongo, try Pal Campo. And if you like crab meat, try them together in a salsa criolla.
Buen provecho mi gente!!! -

O-M-G! Was this experience B-A-D!!! Haven't had a really bad experience in a bit of time so I think it was in due time lol. We were excited to come here with some friends but now regret that decision! Came in at 4:30pm and was seated by 4:40pm, so not bad. Immediately greeted by the service Luis? to take our drink orders. 2 alcoholic drinks and the rest waters and sodas. He even took my daughters order and answered some questions about the menu. Off to a good start.
Then the first red flag -- Drinks took a good 10-15 minutes to make it to the table, even the water orders. I think they waited for the alcoholic drinks to be ready to bring all drinks. Ok, whatever. Right when the drinks arrived my daughters Mac and cheese arrived. The kids meals are served on weird school platters and instead of a side they come with Gogurt, a fruit cup and fruit gummies. Weird sides for a kids meal but whatever. We placed our orders when the drinks arrived.
My husband orders the steak plate, I ordered the Pal Campo chicken, another order for the table was the Garlic chicken, and another was a sample appetizer platter. The sides for all of our meals was rice and beans.
2nd red flag -- We sat, and sat, and sat seeing others seated after us get their meals and the food was so hot that you could see the steam. Their food looked wonderful and we were starving! Luis stopped by once to assure us that our food would be out soon...no ask for topping off our drinks. And no follow up after sitting another 20 minutes after he originally stopped to let us know that our food was soon..so we stopped him and asked. He said he'd check in the kitchen. We were beyond frustrated at this point so my husband went to the front counter and asked to have our checks for the drinks and kid meals. At the exact moment he sat back at the table, they show up with the food. He gets up and asks to speak to a manager. Manager arrives shortly after and we explained the issue. Her excuse-- the kitchen was busy. Ummmm I'm sorry what!? There's no excuse! AND people seated AFTER us were served BEFORE us. Food was served at 5:53pm!!! Are you kidding me. We felt the food while the manager was present and YEP, cold and luke warm! The beans were even cold and bland! The appetizer sampler was cold and you could tell was sitting in the kitchen since the fried foods were wet and soaked with the oil. There was a deep fried thing of cheese bites in the center of the plate and had sauce drizzling that was soaked into the batter. GROSS. My husbands steak was cold and GRAY.....WTH!! Steak shouldn't be that color lol. My Pal Campo chicken looked absolutely amazing and I wanted to dig in. I cut it and took a bite -- chicken was warm but not hot and the taste was good but I ended up sending it back because it wasn't hot. I advised the manager that I didn't want a refire of the food because 1 party at our table did ask and when hers arrived back even the flag that was poked into the chicken was hot which indicated that the food was probably just placed in the microwave! Especially since the hot food arrived back to the table within 5 minutes. Record time if you ask me for recooking a chicken dish. She tasted it then we pulled up other Yelp reviews and noticed someone said that they got sick from the food for similar issues we encountered with the food being cold and the appetizer being oily. So she stopped eating and we left. The manager ended up comping the tables check and apologized. We did leave a tip for the waiter since the experience wasn't his fault however he could've been better at partnering with the kitchen to get the food out. He could've also refilled drinks and checked in on us.
We will definitely not be back here. Which is actually so sad since I thought it would've been nice to have a Puerto Rican restaurant near work and home.
Please read the reviews before making your choice to dine here. Alot of the reviews seem to have the same issues -- slow service, suspect food, poor service and bland or cold food. If you do choose to dine here, good luck and may the force be with you. -

Oy... I have not had a truly bad experience at a sit down restaurant in a while. Apparently, I won the bad experience lotto today. We decided to try this place out with some friends; hopefully they stay our friends after this...
Please read the other reviews before making your dining choice. Two common themes, slow service and questionable food.
We got to the restaurant at 4:30, which is an off peak time for dinner. We were seated pretty promptly by 4:40. We sat down and the server Luis greeted us and took our initial drink orders, 1 draft beer, 1 pina colada, and assorted sodas and water. He even took our daughter's kids meal order of mac and cheese at the same time. So far so good...
Until over an hour later and after two reassurances from Luis that he was checking on our food we still had nothing. By that point we noticed others seated after us had already received their food. After consulting with our group we decided to go to the front to ask them to bill us out for our drinks and complain we had not received our food. Lo and behold, our food shows up literally as I was asking for the check. I asked that a manager come by so we could discuss the service issue.
The manager came over and apologized and advises that the kitchen was extremely busy. I let her know our thoughts on the service and advised we would check out our food while she was there.
All of our orders were cold or lukewarm. I had cube steak and it had a lime or lemon scent to it, but it was cold and gray. If I recall, steak shouldn't be that color or have that odor so I refused the food and didn't want a refire. A fried appetizer platter two others ordered had a glossy sheen and sauces that looked like they had been sitting on the food for a while (imagine a piece of bead with mayo and mustard on it that had been sitting for a while). They tasted one of the fried plantains? We weren't sure what it was and it should have had crunch, instead it was chewy and soaked with oil. We guessed that the food had been sitting on the pass for a while. At that point we rejected all of the food as we didn't want to get sick.
The manager apologized and did the right thing and comp'ed the bill since we didn't eat anything. At that point, we all decided the food was suspect and wanted to leave. We left a tip for the waiter since the food wasn't his fault, but I would recommend he help make the experience better and push the pass to get food out timely.
So...based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend coming here. I have friends that can cook these types of food at home with much higher quality. I don't know what happened, but they have a lot of work to do. Maybe I'll come back one day, but definitely not in the near future. -

The place is beautiful it really represents Puerto Rico it's clean inside and decorated well. The wait staff is friendly and do their best to see customers are happy.
Service is slow however when you order you may wait a while and when you get your food (and you have asked for grilled) it will come out fried. I ordered the mofundo and the chicken was so dry but tasted oily it had a very bland sauce on it and the tostones it was on was dry. The waitress tried to do her best to make me happy so I sent the order back and she returned with the pork chops. They were also dry and tasted fried. I think they fry all the meat there because it tasted just like the French fries. All the food delivered to me had no seasonings.
I was really looking forward to eating there and was so sad when the food didn't taste anything like the Puerto Rican food I know.
Shortly after my meal there my stomach hurt and I had to do a cleanse the following day I felt so bad. My guess is it's the oil. I am not sure it's good for cooking or very clean. -

This place reminds me of home, food was rich and cocked to perfection the sangrias are the best I ever had and the service was a delight.
I got the sampler to taste a little of everything, and everything was GOOD!!!!!! Btw I went a Sunday music and as in point.
